While UMRA, the Upper Monongahela River Association, takes
part in the Watersheds Compact and maintains this record on this
website as a convenience for the Compact, the WV/PA Monongahela Area
Watersheds Compact is a separate and disctinct group. Positions taken
by the compact may not necessarily be those of UMRA as apporved by its
Board of Directors.

Army Corps
of Engineers: Initial Watershed Assessment in the Mon Basin
On 17 August 2010 the Upper Monongahela River Association
(UMRA) held a
gathering with the goal of discussing different issues facing the
Monongahela River basin. Invitations were sent primarily to watershed
and conservation groups focused on streams within the Monongahela River
basin.
Each group talked about its biggest concerns — most of which dealt with
access for recreation, acid mine drainage, removal of water and
drilling discharge being put back into streams.
Duane Nichols (Duane330@aol.com) agreed to Co-Chair a "steering
committee" or "working group" to provide communication links and the
transfer of information and ideas on the issues discussed, and to plan
future activities. The group has been named the WV/PA Monongahela Area
Watersheds Compact.
