The home-river advantage worked for West Virginia.
The Mountain State repeated Friday as champion of The Bass Federation
Mid-Atlantic Division fishing tournament, on the Monongahela River.
Anglers representing the state reeled in 65 fish, totaling 76 pounds,
15 ounces, during the three-day, seven-team tourney. Pennsylvania (67
pounds, 3 ounces) came in second, with Virginia (64-9) third.
Robby Fleshman, of Tad, caught just 1 pound, 8 ounces of fish Friday
but easily won the individual title, with 13 pounds for the three days.
Jeff Miller, of Johnstown, Pa., wound up second, at 10 pounds, 9
ounces, and Willie Adkins Jr., of Wayne, was third (10-7).
Anglers weighed in up to five fish each day. Each had to be at least 12
inches long and one of three types of black bass: smallmouth,
largemouth or spotter. The teams vied for a chance to win a share of
the $20,000 prize.
Anglers also competed for individual spots in the 2010 Bass Federation
national tournament and a chance to win $250,000 next April, in
Knoxville, Ky. Fleshman's and Adkins' efforts make them nation-al
contenders.
