Mon River Meeting Set for Tuesday
Morgantown Dominion Post
16 August 2010
The Upper Monongahela River Association (UMRA) is hosting a meeting of
Mon River Watershed Basin organizations in West Virginia, Pennsylvania
and Maryland at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Morgantown Airport conference
room, bottom floor entrance.
The objective is to begin a dialogue on mutual interests and concerns
regarding water quality, including total dissolved solids and water
withdrawal issues in the Mon River Basin in light of existing coal mine
discharges and the rapidly growing Marcellus gas drilling industry.
The meeting will include presentations by Frank Jernejcic, fisheries
biologist, on the Dunkard Creek Fish Kill and the future of our
streams; and Paul Ziemkiewicz, director, WV Water Research Institute,
on water quality and TDS.
Among groups expected to attend are Friends of Blackwater, Friends of
Deckers Creek, Friends of the Cheat, Guardians of the West Fork, and
Save the Tygart.
The meeting is not a Water Quality Forum nor a Mon River Recreation
& Commerce Committee meeting. The next Water Quality Forum will be
in either September or October.
