Monongalia County commissioners toured the old Quality Glass Co. site Wednesday and discussed the possibility of making it something more.

The property is along the railtrail near Star City. The county owns the land, which is currently an open lot and parking area.

Commissioner Bob Bell said the former owners would provide information about the history of the facility. They also want to erect a sign to recognize the history.

The county received a brownfields grant for $260,000, plus $60,000 of county money, to spruce up the lot, Bell said.

There is talk about turning the area into a place where people could launch their boats or do some fishing, Bell said.

If the plans are financially feasible, Bell said, he imagines the commission will put in a boat ramp.
