The West Virginia rowing team closed out its fall sea-son with a bronze medal at the Head of the Occoquan Regatta Saturday.

For the second consecutive year at the event, the Mountaineer varsity 4+ "A" boat finished in third place with a time of 19:59.41. The West Virginia "B" boat finished 12th while the "C" boat ended in 16th place out of 36.

West Virginia finished behind Duke's "A" and "B" boats, which had times of 19:26.23 and 19:42.14, respectively.

In the open 8+ race in a field of 28, West Virginia's boats finished eighth and 15th, finishing within 50 seconds of each other, capping off a successful fall season for each boat.

At the Head of Ohio on Oct. 3, both boats finished within 30 seconds of each other.

The WVU varsity rowing team has placed at least one boat in the top three in each of its regatta's this year.

The Mountaineers finished with three top-15 finishers on the weekend.

The novice 4+ "A" boat finished ninth with a time of 24:33.41 and the novice "B" boat finished 15th.

Georgetown's novice "A" boat won the event with a time of 21:57.03.

In the novice 8+ race, West Virginia placed 15th, falling to Delaware who finished at 19:36.87.

The Mountaineers' third place finish at the Head of the Occoquan closed out their fall season, which is primarily used to train for the more competitive spring season.

Last spring, West Virginia placed eighth at the Big East Conference Championships and returns all members from last year's squad.
