The Ohio River Valley Sanitation Commission is seeking volunteers for its annual River Sweep 2012 river bank trash cleanup June 16 along the length of the Ohio River and its tributaries in Western Pennsylvania.

The cleanup effort will cover more than 3,000 miles of shoreline in six states and is the largest trash and debris collection effort in the U.S.

"The Ohio River Sweep is very important because for a few hours on one day volunteers can help make a difference in the appearance of this great natural resource," said Jeanne Ison, project director.

Volunteers for the sweep can call 1-800-359-3977 or visit http://www.orsanco.org for information. Volunteers receive a free T-shirt.
