Area residents are taking to the web to try and stop the lock closures on the Monongahela River, and now they're getting support from the Marion County Commission.

Commissioner Butch Tennant said the commission will be adding a resolution to support efforts to keep the locks open at next week's meeting.

Tennant said the commission will do what it can to see the locks remain open, but having citizens involved in efforts like this are a big benefit.

"Any time you get more people involved, that's more power you have. So I think its great that people are taking an interest in their community. Instead of just saying 'OK they closed the locks, OK they close this,' I think it's great that they got involved," Tennant said.
