ELIZABETH, Pa. (AP) — The Army Corps of Engineers has repaired a
102-year-old set of locks on the Monongahela River near Pittsburgh
after a hydraulic fluid line failed.
Army Corps officials say the locks in Elizabeth were closed from about
11 a.m. to about 2:20 p.m. Sunday because of the problems.
The locks about 10 miles southeast of Pittsburgh are the oldest in the
Pittsburgh river navigation district overseen by the corps.
Army officials want to replace the locks and dam but say they've been
forced to implement "temporary bandaging" of the old structure because
of a lack of federal funds.
