A Sea Scout troop from the Monongahela River won BoatUS' Flagship Award this year. Sea Scouts use boats, seamanship, and nautical skills to develop character and leadership qualities in young people. The annual award is given to the unit that displays the best program quality, youth achievement and adult commitment.

Sea Scout Ship 46, based in Morgantown , W.Va., operated its 36-foot Chris Craft Cavalier on the river and sailed small boats on nearby lakes. The troop had 47 days of on-water activities including boat handling, rules of the road, safety drills and maintenance.

Sea Scouting is a co-ed program, in which nearly 7,000 youths nationwide participate. For more information, contact seascouts@boatus.com.
